Based on Luke 1:39-56, this scene depicts Mary visiting a miraculously pregnant Elizabeth. At the sound of Mary’s greeting, John the Baptist leaps in his mother’s womb for joy. The hidden Christ - growing happily inside Mary - elicits a supernatural joy. The viewer can see the joy on Elizabeth’s face and remember that when one beholds Jesus, their joy is complete.

Originally painted as a gift for a friend finding her vocation as a religious sister.
