This painting was birthed from the mission statement of the St. Lawrence Center: “To burn for the treasures of the church.”

Mary, the Queen of Heaven and Earth, carries Jesus into the chapel. As a newborn, Jesus burns like a bright coal, lighting the candles that represent the students at KU. Meanwhile Mary stomps on the serpent who is merely smoke.

Jesus is the true flame that sets the world on fire, starting with His Mother’s own heart. This image is for all those looking for a home at the St. Lawrence Center (or really for the Church as a whole) and are in need of a Mother who wants to bring the warmth and light.
